As a devotee of the old Blue Parrot, I was skeptical about trying the new. With all of the media hype, celebrity owners, not to mention a-list diners, I was worried that it wouldn't compete with fond memories of the old. Well, I tried it, and was not disappointed. The comfortable atmosphere, decor of the old Blue Parrot has been lovingly restored, down to the mason jar glasses for the margaritas. The crowd at the bar was lively, and a familiar mix of locals, weekenders, with a smattering of tourists thrown in. The only thing not even vaguely reminiscent of the old Blue Parrot is the food. Thank goodness. We went early, sat immediately and were delighted with both the tex/mex fare and the more adventurous offerings of mussels in beer and meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce. We sampled both the chicken taquito, and the steak quesadilla, with an order of guacamole on the side. We opted for the spicy chipotle guac, and it was great. The fresh fish of the day, and the daily soup special made from local tomatoes were to die for. And the hamburger and fries was great, and a bargain to boot. I look forward to a second visit soon.
